Internal memory or main memory functions for:
  • Storing data from devices  and send it to the ALU for processing.
  • Store data in ALU before being sent to the output device.
  • Accommodate the programs or instructions that come from devices  or from secondary reminder tool.
RAM (Random-Access Memory) is one type of internal memory which determines the ability of a computer. Internal memory can be called the main memory, This component serves as a reminder.

RAM is a type of memory which  has contents can be changed in any time as system is running and has capabilty remember of data or program as long get current of electricity and can store and retrieve data very quickly.

Types of RAM :
  • DRAM (Dynamic RAM) is a type of RAM must be periodically refreshed by the CPU in order the data contained therein is not lost.
  • SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM) is a type of RAM is the most commonly used in PCs nowdays. RAM is synchronized by the clock system and has speed higher more than DRAM. its Suitable for systems with a bus speed up to 100 MHz.
  • SRAM (Static RAM) is a type of memory that does not need to freshen up the CPU to the data contained therein. This type of RAM has a higher speed than the DRAM.
  • RDRAM (RAMBUS Dynamic RAM) is a type of memory that is faster and more expensive than SDRAM. This memory can be used on systems that use on Pentium 4.
  • EDO RAM (Extended Data Out RAM) is a type of memory used in systems Pentium. Suitable for bus speeds up to 66 MHz.
